Other Characters: Konoe (curvature)
Characters Name: RedSAMPLES;
Age: The fact is he went on his journey when he was 11, the time span of how long the events could have prolonged is uncertain, the years he spent training on Mt. Silver is questionable, and that HG/SS starts 3 years after his storyline...! So I want to assume 16-17.
Canon: Pokémon (games)
Canon Point: HG/SS, after being warped out of Mt. Silver.
Species: Human
Gender: M
Orientation: --
History: CLICK!
Appearance:Personality: Not much is expressed within the game specifically about Red, but one can assume that there is some development before the game. Pallet Town has so little buildings and there is only one other kid. It would be obvious that Red and Blue would end up being friends even for a temporary period of time. After a while, Blue bullies... To add onto that, his father is never shown nor does he ever appear. He is only referenced when examining a SNES in the Celadon Department Store, thus leaving Red only with his mother and a bully of a friend. It isn't surprising that he grows into the mold of a reserved person who feels that he doesn’t need to say much in order to get his point across--actually, he might have a hard difficult expressing himself once in a while. The only person that has been said to have heard Red talk legitimately is the Copycat in Saffron City. This makes Blue's comment about Red being a "chatty gossip" a major case of sarcasm, especially when some describes Red as "the strong, silent type". With being on his own most of the time, he has found himself being quite interested in Pokemon. He becomes so interested in Pokemon that he wanted to become a Pokemon Trainer.Abilities: Legitimately as human as possible. The only thing I can really think of is that he has high stamina to even live on a mountain...
In the beginning of his journey, he shows signs of being quite adventurous and inquisitive to the point where the player has to walk into the tall grass without any Pokemon in order to coax Professor Oak out of hiding. In the majority of other games, you don't need to touch the tall grass for the local professor to pop up. This also indicates that Red is impulsive and headstrong, or you can say strong-willed. His thirst for challenge is also what makes him step forward and do the impossible, battling through all of Kanto to the name of "Champion". You can say that competition brings out the best of him and he really is a good sport!
Some of these traits show not only in his actions, but also in his attitude towards Team Rocket. Despite how he does not initially mean to meddle into their affairs, he becomes too deeply involved to just walk away. It might seem more like a compulsion to join and there’s an example that shows where Red stands. During his stay at Cerulean City, he confronts a Team Rocket member after beating the five trainers on the golden bridge. The member, seeing his strength, attempts to persuade Red into joining the brigade. How did Red respond? Apparently from the grunt’s reaction, Red rejects the offer continuously. Other options were open, to walk away or accept the offer, but he chooses to stand his ground and tells the Grunt his decision. His position on the offer shows where his strong-will is placed, in opposition of Team Rocket and evil doings. He has a good grip on what's right and wrong.
It only adds to his certain achievement of thwarting Team Rocket’s plans while having to juggle being a trainer and dealing with his rival. Many grunts, and even the leader of Team Rocket, comment on how he can be a great addition. He has potential, but why? The grunts see it as that he is a great trainer; he is powerful and stuff along those lines in the negative sense. But how does that make him strong? Normal people say it is how he raises and cares for his Pokemon.
As most already know, Red is meant to serve as a foil to the rival and the total opposite of Team Rocket when it comes to work ethic. What this truly means is that the way Red cares for his Pokemon is genuine. It is repeated throughout the game that he has been taking good care of his team! At the beginning, he didn't show any reluctance when picking his Pokemon before Blue nor did he call out on his rival out on picking the "better" Pokemon. He doesn’t only care for them, but also respects them. Opposing the Team Rocket way of treating Pokemon like slaves, Red treats them as equals and has this level of understanding. It’s also apparent when he beats Blue during the Elite Four and Professor Oak appears, believing Blue still doesn’t fully grasp how to care for his Pokemon yet he recognizes Red has and congratulates him on becoming Champion.
It describes Red as being a naturally caring person. In Yellow version, he is seen taking in all the unwanted Pokemon which included Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Lapras, Eevee (though this one was given to him) despite how he was barely starting out when he picked up the first three (lack of resources). His Pokemon team in HG/SS mirrors exactly those Pokemon that he picked up from other people rather than stronger ones that he could have gotten at higher levels. Another example is that he goes out of his way to not only stop Team Rocket, but calm the ghost of Cubone's mother. His kind nature isn't only shown in Pokemon, but he also runs out to do errands for people (too many to list)! Even if they're tedious and annoying, he makes his way to get them done to make it easier on the other person.
Even though he has defeated the Elite Four and earned the title of Champion, he abandons it in order to go back to being a wandering Pokemon trainer. One can say that this act shows that he’s a bit insensitive when it comes to people (really, taking your rival’s title just to throw it away, hog his grandfather’s praise, along with never calling your mother is pretty dubious), but this can also show how he is a free spirit and wants to travel as he pleases. It may have been that he isn't the type to hog up all the fame as that is not why he started his journey in the first place. Having to hide away in a mountain might have been his escape from all the attention he must have gotten. Nevertheless, the way he leaves can... kind of show his lack of tact. He left his mother worried sick and also everyone that new him just to go train on the mountain. It is not exactly the brightest idea to someone that has common sense.
Unbound by obligations that he is so willing to fulfill until this point, he trains on the top of Mt. Silver waiting for a worthy challenger to make his day. Though he gets to keep his independence and privacy up in the mountain, there are some cons. Being isolated has truly taken its toll on him, causing a little social regression from that lack of interaction. He can manage though. He always seemed to.
Still, one shouldn’t forget that he’s a normal and simple person in the end. He may seem not to talk, but it means there's not much to say. Deep down, he's a little socially inept (not having had to actively cooperate with other trainers), but his heart is in the right place.
